Quick Reference

Below are the minimum steps to get the game running.

Setup​

  1. Obtain an API key from OpenRouter. Required for generating scene text.
  • Open the game's Settings screen (bottom-right of the screen, press the gear icon button settings).
  • Click the Get API Key button to issue one automatically. You'll need to sign up for an OpenRouter account if you don't have one.
  • The default model setting is fine for now. If the model name ends with :free, it's a free model.
  1. Return to the Title screen and press the New Story button to open the Theme Setup screen.
  2. Set the game theme.
  • Enter your preferred theme. For example:
Alice's Adventures in Akihabara:
Alice wanders into Akihabara chasing a white rabbit.
  • Alternatively, press the Generate Idea button to auto-generate one.
  1. Configure image generation parameters.
  • The default Hugging Face settings should work (if generation fails, it will be blank). You can generate about 3 images for free without registration.
  1. Adjust the scene length to your preference. For story-focused play, 200+ words is recommended.
  • Setup is now complete. Press the Start Story button at the bottom of the screen to begin the game.
    • Try playing and adjust the theme or parameters as needed.

Play​

  • Once the first scene generates successfully, its text and image will be displayed.
  • At the end of the text, three choice buttons and one input field will appear.
    • Press a choice button to take that action and generate the next scene.
    • If you don't like the displayed choices, type freely in the input field and press the submit button.
  • Repeat choices to progress the story.
  • When the AI determines "this is a good stopping point for the story," the game ends at that scene.
    • Instead of choices, closing text and a Play Again button will appear.

The above flow assumes the AI behaves as expected. Irrelevant images may be generated, choices may be missing, or text may not generate at all. This depends on the model's capabilities.

Notes​

  • If you're uncomfortable entering an API key, use a free account without a registered credit card, or set a credit limit of $0/day on the key.
  • Local LLMs like llama.cpp or LM Studio are supported, but due to generation speed, they're only recommended for those confident in their PC's performance.
  • If image generation setup is too much trouble, set it to "Disabled." The image display area will be blank.
