Quick Reference

The following are the minimum steps required to run the game.

Setup​

  • Obtain an API key from OpenRouter. This is required for generating scene text.
    • Open the Settings screen of this game (accessed by clicking the gear icon button settings in the bottom right of the screen).
    • Click the Get API Key button to issue one automatically. If you do not have an OpenRouter account, you will need to sign up.
    • You can leave the model selection as the default for now. Models ending in :free are free models.
  • Return to the Start screen and click the New Story button to display the Theme Setup screen.
  • Set the theme of the game.
    • Enter your preferred theme. You can use the default or click the Generate Ideas button to generate one automatically.
  • Configure the image generation parameters.
    • It should work with the default settings for Hugging Face (if generation fails, an image notifying you of the error will be displayed instead). You can likely generate around 10 images for free.
  • Change the scene length to your preference. For a story-focused experience, 200 words or more is recommended.
  • Setup is now complete. Click the Start Story button at the bottom of the screen to begin the game.
    • Try playing the game and adjust the theme or parameters as needed.

Gameplay​

  • Once the generation of the first scene is successfully completed, the text and image for that scene will be displayed.
  • At the end of the text, three choice buttons and one input form will appear.
    • Clicking a choice button will treat that selection as an action and begin generating the next scene.
    • If you are not satisfied with the provided choices, feel free to write your own in the input form and press the send button.
  • The story progresses as you continue making choices.
  • The game ends when the AI determines that the story has reached a natural conclusion.
    • Instead of choices, a concluding text and a Play Again button will be displayed.
  • Note: The above flow describes the process when the AI behaves as expected.
    • Depending on the performance of the model used, unrelated images may be generated, choices may be missing, or text may not be generated at all.

Additional Information​

  • If you are hesitant about entering an API key, please use a free account without a registered credit card, or a key with the credit limit set to $0/day to prevent spending.
  • Local LLMs such as llama.cpp or LM Studio can be used, but due to generation speed, they are not recommended unless you are confident in your PC's specifications.
  • If configuring image generation is too tedious, set it to "Disabled." Picsum-style images will be displayed instead.
